My friends Andrés Camarán and Carlo Olarte went flying on December 2012 at
National Park Platillón, in the state of Guarico, Venezuela. We flew separate
ways, heading west, in constant radio contact. Conditions were a bit difficult,
given that cloud base was 1,800m ASL (about 1,200m AGL), although thermals were
averaging 4m/s. It took us 4 hours to fly 94km and we were all at least once
about to land at some point.
After 3.5 hours, we found each other 15km before landing and stayed together
that last 30 minutes. It is a great flying area, very scenic, with lots of
landings along the way, although retrieval is sort of complicated because there
are no paved roads. Summer conditions (dry) usually begin around December and
get really good from February to April. We've had some great flying since this
video. Many thanks to our driver Ramon Arroyo and to Wills Wing for designing
and building exceptional hang gliders!
