The basic premise for this initiative is that there is something
severely broken in the paragliding XC comps scene at the moment. I have worked
on trying to repair it from within for almost two years, and yet it seems to be
only getting worse.

We have a lot of emphasis on "lean" here - we don't want the registration fee to
become too high, and are aiming for around 190EUR/event, so in order to be able
to do it on that sort of money we need to have a slim and efficient organisation.
There will be no dedicated scoring officer, since the scoring is running Online
and the track upload will be done by the pilots themselves. In case of trouble
there will obviously be the option to review tracks with the meet director. Then
we will have some local support to help us with the logistics side of things,
like transport to launch, retrieves, party organisation etc., and we will have
local paramedic support.

We will have facilities in place to track pilots privately using their own SPOT
devices, smart phones, FlyMaster Live devices etc. We just won't publish the
tracking screens. We believe that the technology is not quite ripe for this yet,
so it offers more frustration than it should for viewers, and we also believe
that it may adversely influence pilot decision making. This is not all written
in stone; if we find that the pilots are asking for Live Tracking we may revise
this decision for 2014.

The organisation is run by me, Mads Syndergaard, and I will hold meetings and
referendums during events to do brainstorming for improving the format of
subsequent events. The WPS is not, initially at least, formally a member-run
federation of pilots, although pilots will have a lot of say in how the things
are run. Consider this: If you come to the events and actively take part in the
brainstorming and decision making processes then the events are a success and
will keep running, if you stay away then we must either do things differently or
perish. At the bottom of it things don't get much more democratic than that.
