Complaining in paradise
It has been mentioned to me that a few pilots have complained to
Jamie Shelden about something or other at the Americus Cup. What are these
people thinking? They are living the life of Riley and somehow it doesn't come
up to their high standards? Perhaps they should take up residence in Somalia or
California. Come on people, you never had it so good. One pilot writes:
I'm not a comp pilot, but I've heard back from several pilots who
were there what a great time they had. I may just come out next year, at least
try the sport class.
Another writes:
Back in the real world after a great week in Americus. On the
second leg of work trip flying (Delta at about 40,000 ft) over south Georgia.
Cummies everywhere lined up in nice streets and landing fields as far as the eye
can see. Can't wait for next year. What a friendly area as well.
Jamie does the organizing out of the goodness of her heart. She
also volunteers as the CIVL Secretary and a USHPA Representative. She wants and
needs the appreciation of the pilots that she is serving. If you have a
complaint, don't take it to her. Take it to me if you must, or better still get
busy doing the work that is needed to fix the issue. She can always use help
with finding sponsors, getting pilots to come to the competition, getting
community support, dealing with the airport officials, getting tugs up and
running before the meets (see Russell Brown at Quest Air), having the carts
rebuilt (I worked on this in the prior month). If there is a problem, how about going ahead and fixing it yourself. We are all
in this together.
