Correcting a left turn
I had a bit of a left turn during the Americus Cup after landing
amidst the pines on the sixth day of the competition (I had to go all the way to
the right side of the base tube to fly straight). I spoke with Matt Barker to
make sure that I understood exactly how to correct the turn. This is from the
T2C
manual:
To Correct Turns:
Left Wing.
Turn bolt clockwise to lower left wand tip and correct left turn. Turn
counterclockwise to raise wand and correct right turn.
Right Wing.
Turn bolt clockwise to lower right wand tip and correct right turn. Turn
counterclockwise to raise wand and correct left turn.
One 360 degree turn on each bolt in opposite directions will correct a slight
turn, and 2-3 turns will correct a moderate turn.
Matt suggested 3/4 turns on both the left and right wings as per
the instructions above. Matt feels that the manual is too aggressive and that
much less adjustment of the bolt is required for a moderate turn.
I knew that it would be quite easy to make the adjustments. That is because
there is easy access to the adjustment bolt even if the glider is completely set
up. You just unzip the outboard sprog zipper, place a 7/16th inch ratchet wrench on the bolt on top of the outboard leading edge tube and
turn. It is so nice to be able to make this adjustment so easily.
The glider flew great the next day, but the day after I noticed that there was a
slight right turn. I had over adjusted. I'll back it off a quarter turn later
this week at the East Coast Championship.
As I recall all other gliders require much more effort to make this adjustment.
Kudos to Wills Wing for addressing this issue and making keeping our gliders in
adjustment so much easier.
