It shows a gyro glider from 1946. The pilot Igor Benson is clutching a control
bar type arrangement which he uses to control the glider by shifting it from
side to side and for and aft much the same as hang gliders of today. It probably
played no role in the development of the control bar for hang gliders but it
does show that a control bar had been used to control an aircraft approximately
twenty years before it was used successfully on a hang glider.
