We had a great day of test flying new gliders on Thursday. There
was lots of smoke and haze in the air from the forest fire on Mt. San Jacinto,
about 35 miles to the SE. Still good and soarable. We had a bunch of T2C 136's
and Sport 2's and got 18 gliders tested.
The fire:

22,800 acres - 15% contained
The Mountain Fire is currently burning east of the Mountain Center and Apple
Canyon Areas. It is burning in very steep and rugged terrain in the southern
portion of the San Jacinto Wilderness along the Desert Divide and in the Apple
Canyon and Bonita Vista Areas.
Firefighters made great progress in rocky terrain and high temperatures today.
Winds from the east caused fire to spread in multiple directions. The fire was
held at the ridge by fire crews and aircraft. Two MAFFs (Mobile Airborne Fire
Fighting System) units have been deployed to great effect.
Tonight, firefighters plan to take advantage of cooler temperatures by
continuing to strengthen and build upon containment lines. The fire remains
active in the north above Idyllwild and south near Trails End.
The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway and Mount San Jacinto State Park are currently
closed because of unhealthy air quality.
