Support a city that supports hang gliding
Every year the city of Big Spring and the city owned McMahon-Wrinkle Airport provide hang glider pilots with very valuable services. They provide:
1) Air conditioned airport terminal for our meetings, registration, score keeping 2) Restrooms 3) Free bottled water 4) Free Ice cream 5) Room in a large hangar for the Dragonflies and for the hang gliders 6) Three or four golf carts 7) Welcoming dinner, dinner location, welcoming address 8) Volunteer organization for preparing the launch and getting pilots and their harnesses to launch from the hangar 9) The airport taxi way for launching 10) Tires to keep us from breaking the taxi way lights 11) $500 in prize money from the Alon Refinery 12) Inexpensive lunch service 13) Cart Retrieval 14) More that Ive forgotten to list here. We have calculated that the city provided $20,000 in in kind services for the 2007 Worlds in Big Spring.
You can show our appreciation for what Big Spring does for hang gliding by participating in the US Nationals fund raiser. The money we collect from you goes to help the local Big Spring Rainbow Room.
The Rainbow Room is an emergency resource center available to Child Protective Services caseworkers to help them meet the critical needs of abused and neglected children. Stocked with all new items, Rainbow Rooms provide:
Clothing, shoes, underwear, baby formula, school supplies, hygiene items, beds, and car seats.
These items go directly to children entering foster or relative care and children in their own homes who live below the poverty line.
We are the only source of funds for the Rainbow Room in Big Spring and the $2,000 we gave last year went immediately to school clothes for these kids.
We very much wish to show the city that we appreciate all the support that they
provide for us. You can do your part contributing to the fund raiser by stating
which team(s) and by how much you support them. The money collected is going to the Rainbow Room through the Cloudbase Foundation,
Helping Children Where Ever We Fly.
The teams consist of six pilots and the top three finishers from each team will be counted every day. The team with the highest score at the end of the competition is the winner. The exact makeup of the teams may vary up to the start of the competition based on who shows up, how fit they are, and any pilot input.
