2013 Willi Muller Cross Country Challenge

The 2013 Will Muller Cross Country Challenge is now over and it
was one of the most successful Willis in years! Over fifty pilots registered and
flew last week when the weather co-operated. Several days of potential
thunderstorms kept pilots local, but there were also several days that allowed
the pilots to do huge flights and many personal bests. Many happy pilots at
places like Invermere, Canal Flats, and further south, as well as numerous
out-and-return flights to take strategic advantage of the scoring bonuses! For
those watching from the office, the SPOT's provided quite a bit of entertainment
as you were able to follow pilots' progress in near real-time. To summarize the final results over the week: Hang Gliding: 1st place Ross Hunter
2nd place Serge Lamarche
3rd place Dave Haas Women's Hang Gliding: 1st place Beverly Johns Paragliding 1 (greater than 75km previous cross country experience): 1st place Al Thielmann
2nd place Andrew Berkley
3rd place Max Lautenbacher Paragliding 2 (less than 75km previous cross country experience): 1st place Darcy Gillis
2nd place Mark Parminter
3rd place Tomohiko Murase Women's Paragliding: 1st place Lisa Dickinson
2nd place Carrie Corbin
3rd place Magali Lalonde-Legault Complete results are
here. ~$2000 in prize money plus sponsor swag was given out at the awards ceremony on
Sunday. Congratulations especially to the Willi Team: Stewart Midwinter, Leif Hanson,
Randy Parkin, John McIsaac, Carrie Corbin, Janet Morris, Dale Osmond, Danny
Wolf, Keith McCullough, and Vincene Muller (and anyone else I've missed). You
guys made this happen!
