Open Distance

My latest novel, published last spring, called OPEN DISTANCE. It's
all about a soaring competition circuit...although with a pretty unique
technological twist. The center of any great action/suspense work is the human
drama of course, the intrigue and motivations and emotions, the dire situations
and edge-of-seat events, but the heart and soul of this novel is still all about
us. My core band of beta reviewers included some very accomplished hang glider
pilots (some of them comp pilots), and (almost) to a man they couldn't put it
down.
I don't know if our world has ever really been "tapped" to this degree for a
mainstream action/suspense work before--my first novel ARCHANGEL had two full
chapters dedicated to a hang gliding flight, but OPEN DISTANCE is just plain
*all* us...and yet unique, per that "twist" I mentioned. It should be very good
for the sport; non-pilots eat it up, and have contacted me marveling at the
world of soaring. (It began as a short story that appeared in Hang Gliding
Magazine in 1996, the first fiction the mag had published for at least a decade,
and the full novel grew out of that. But don't dig that issue out...the full
novel is the real deal.)
It's available (and priced for the pilot budget!) As an eBook and as a
paperback, on pretty much every sales channel. I'd really love to see some
pilots post comments online at some point, too. Please strap into the armchair
before reading it.
