Here's an initiative by Piero Zin, Luis's team mate, wing man and
friend. When he emailed me about this project a couple weeks ago, I decided to
help him which ever way I could. Here we are, the journey has started and right
now, we need to communicate this initiative to the whole international Free
Flight community and we need pilots all over the world to spread the word
around. The Dedale Foundation (Dedale is Icarus's father in the Greek Mythologie)

ease of use and practicality this will be available in different languages ASAP
but as of now, in the urgency of the situation, it's still pretty

In the next few lines and from the bottom of my heart I would like
to ask my great free flying community for help and solidarity.

It's been six months since our flying brother, Luis Rizo-Salom, left us. Those
who got to know him will never forget that, not solely that he was amongst the
world's best hang glider pilots, but that he also was an extraordinary person.
Wherever he went, he left a touching memory of his lust for life, the way he
shared his passion, his joyful amazing smile.

We are all aware that free flying is and remains an individualistic sport and
that when practiced at a higher skilled level, it comes with great costs which
affect the pilot's direct family and loved ones. Financially wise, with the
necessary sacrifices in order to always have the latest top notch equipment and
time wise because of all the "lost time", spent away from the family, flying,
training again and again.

When a tragic accident occurs, the ones left behind often lose all bearings and
psychological, emotional and financial balance; they have to overcome their loss
and sorrow and somehow find a way to move forward and look towards the future.
But that's not all and as if that was not enough, they often have to deal with
many additional matters such as administrative issues, insurance litigations,
financial obligations etc. while having to start over their whole life alone.

This is why I ask for your help and support; because I do not want us to forget
the difficulties which the ones left behind must go through in order to overcome
such hardship, because we cannot be indifferent or simply wait for time to pass
by and slowly let us forget this cruel reality?

Although nothing nor no one will make Luis come back to those who loved him so,
couldn't we at least make an effort in order to help them get back on their feet
and show that we are here for them? Give back a fraction of what our passion has
taken away from them forever; try and let them know that we have not forgotten
them, that free flying does not only take it all away!

I hereby urge you to take part in this support fund rising which will be
entirely donated to Luis's wife, Johanna. This will also be the first step
towards the creation of the Dedale Foundation (Dedalus) which main purpose will
be to support and help the families of pilots who disappeared while living their
passion.
