Why is CIVL pestering Matt Christensen?
He finished in the top 2/3rd's of the Sport Class competition in
Big Spring
Matt Christensen has his plane ticket and is ready to go to the
Sport Class Worlds. He is a genuine Sport Class pilot. He came in fifth out of
eight pilots at Big Spring last year (that's the top two thirds). Why is CIVL
saying he isn't qualified to fly in the Worlds?
Well, because the scorekeeper at Big Spring sent in the names of all the
participants in the Big Spring National Sport Class competition who had FAI
Sporting Licenses (seven pilots). He (I) left off Brian Boudreau, a Canadian
pilot, because he doesn't have a FAI Sporting License from Canada. That's what
I'm supposed to do, or was supposed to do.
But it is my understanding that CIVL at some point decided that Sport Class
pilots did not need a FAI Sporting License to be counted as participating in a
Sport Class competition. I don't remember when this was promulgated (am I in
error here?).
I have informed Nicky at CIVL that indeed eight pilots flew in the Sport Class
at Big Spring and that Matt was fifth:

She refuses to see that Matt was indeed qualified by the CIVL
rules.
Why am I again faced with this kind of attitude from CIVL people?

Hi Matt, I am just wondering if you are aware that your qualification was
accepted. It seems the Davis jungle drums are relaying a different story! ;)
Kind regards, Nicky

Hi Matt,
We are currently reviewing the qualification / selection for the Annecy Worlds.
The results from the Big Spring competition in Sports Class are exactly as
submitted by the organiser with 7 competitors and cannot now be changed in
the wprs.
We should have a decision within the next couple of days from the screening
committee as to whether you would need to submit a formal exception. I would be
grateful if the general correspondence between parties can be dealt with without
my inclusion.
I will contact you if we need to go the exception route.
Kind regards, Nicky
Hi Matt, I informed the championship organisers 2 days ago that you were
qualified in CIVL's opinion. That they didn't relay this to you, is an omission.
Please inform Davis that facts would be much better received than the nonsense
he posted today in the Oz Report.
Fact: Qualification is not my responsibility.
Fact: I have never "refused to see" that you were qualified. Quite the opposite!
Fact: The list sent to the organisers 2 days ago clearly shows that you are qualified.
Fact: Davis has no understanding of the situation regarding Sporting licences! ;)
Annoyed!
With kind regards,
Nicky
