2014 Chelan Cross Country Classic
http://www.cloudbase.org/2014/07/2014-chelan-xcc-days-1-and-2/
Monday was a classic high pressure day with light and variable
winds. TJs windgram and the MM5 showed top of lift to only be 6000 msl. XC
skies showed 8000. It was a pleasant surprise to climb 8000 above the butte and
get to 9500 over the flats. The air was quite textured, and many of the
competitors watched a paraglider pilot with a cravat throw his reserve and land
under canopy. Thankfully, he is fine.
There was heavy sink between thermals and the lift lines were difficult to find.
That didnt pose a problem to Zac Majors who a 107 mile triangle (Leahy, Soap
Lake, Butte), which is the longest triangle ever flown as part of the CXCC.
The
second highest scoring flight was a 52 mile triangle by Len Szarfaryn
(Mansfield, Bridgeport, Soccer Field), who leads the serial paragliding class.
Kamron Blevins, flew to Mansfield and back and now leads the kingposted class.
Morgan Hollingsworth leads the sport paragliding class with a milk run triangle
on day 2 (Withrow, Mansfield, Butte).
