A Newcastle man is in a critical condition at Orange Base Hospital
following a hang gliding accident.

The incident happened on the opening day of the first Wings Over Wellington hang
gliding competition which had attracted 26 competitiors from all over world
including Brazil and New Zealand.

Police are still investigating the matter, but it is believed the 54-year-old
man may have had difficulties during take off at the Bodangora airstrip near
Wellington.
