A price comparison

Urs Kellenberger sent me his new Icaro pricing on Friday so I
thought I would go back and do a little price comparison against the American
standard candles, the Wills Wing T2 and T2C with all the options (that I am
aware of).

Euro = $1.16

http://willswing.com/prod2.asp?theClass=hg&theModel=T2

Wills Wing T2 standard package: $6975.

Icaro Z9 Basic: $7372

Aluminum downtubes and aluminum speedbar: $627

A total of $7999.

Icaro offers an option of a set of round cross bar tubes to replace the carbon
square cross bar tubes. It is lighter. The T2 comes with round cross bar tubes.
If we include the price of the round cross bar tubes at $1007 we get a total of
$9006.

Custom colors are included with the T2 (and T2C). Icaro appears to charge $142.

Wills Wing T2C standard package: $8785.

Upgrade to UVODL04 (Technora): $375

Carbon keel stinger: $270

Keel Fairing - Rear Wire Junction: $90

Total: $9520

Option prices taken from the document linked to above and reduced by the ratio
of 6355/7760. That is the price that Urs is offering the Basic Z9 at in the US
as the numerator and price quoted in the document above in the denominator which
may for may not include a 22% VAT.

Icaro Z9 Basic: $7372

Aluminum downtubes and MR carbon speedbar: $665

Crossbar light (round tube instead of square heavier one): $1007

Carbon Leading edge tubes (replace aluminum leading edges, full - Wills Wing
only provides carbon outboard leading edges with aluminum inners): $1092

Tecnora Sail: $575

Leading edge stiffeners long: $252

Total: $10,963

The documentation for the options can be found here:
http://icaro2000.com/Products/Hanggliders/Laminar/Laminar.htm. I don't have
a price on a carbon stinger for the Z9 nor for a keel fairing. Nor prices on
wing tips for the T2C. I have not included wing tips on either model.

Wills uses the thicker 12 mm aluminum battens that are claimed to be 20% stiffer
and 20% lighter than 10 mm battens (I haven't included carbon battens in the Z9
price). They are included in the price of the T2 and the T2C. It appears Icaro uses 10 mm battens and has an option for carbon ones.

I'll have more on this in the next issue.
