King of the Mountain event

Think you can thermal better than your buddies? Prove it at the
first, (maybe annual), "King of the Climb" event at Quest Air Hang Gliding on
March 21st with the 22nd as a weather date if needed.
The rules are simple; fly any glider you want, as many times as you want, to
wherever you want from Quest. Stay local or fly cross country, it doesn't
matter. All you have to do to win is have a greater total accumulated altitude
gain than anyone else.
The scoring is simple, too. Turn in your instrument verifying your best flight.
There is a bonus for low saves. Climb more than 1000' after dropping under 1500'
and get a 5% bonus for your flight. A save from below 1000' gets a 10% bonus and
a save from 500' earns a 15% credit.
Staying stuck to the bottom of a cloud for the afternoon do you any good, you'll
need to core down and climb back up to increase your accumulated altitude gains
and take top honors. You'll need an instrument with an A3 altimeter to record
the flight, so if you don't have one, beg, borrow or steal one from a friend.
The cost of the event is $25 to cover the awards and dinner, and you pay for
your tows at the regular $25 rate. After flying activities include a pizza
dinner and keg, prize giving, Texas Hold'em 50/50 game, a Pilot vs. Brian 8 ball
challenge and a bonfire. If you're interested, email
