Accident at the 2015 World Championships

The British team writes:

All pilots were instructed not to fly to goal due to an accident
in the goal field needing a helicopter. However we are now told that the task
was not stopped. So pilots ignoring the very effectively distributed
instructions not to fly to goal, were able to score more points than those
sensibly obeying!

The radio message did not say that this was a temporary thing and
when questioned the radio operator told me the task must have been stopped given
the instructions he was as giving out. Then I told Wayne the task was stopped. I
was wrong to do that. I should have let Wayne interpret this seemingly
unambiguous message himself. Prior to that I had texted and tried to call the
meet director but got no reply. Probably busy getting that radio message wording
'right' talking to someone else eh? Most pilots had landed at 80-90 k due to
conditions. Only the slow pilots or late start and slow (Zac) could be in a
position to obey or ignore the instructions given. Only Wayne was still airborne
for us. Zac gained a huge and unfair advantage from this. Wayne and others were
disadvantaged. Only the team with their team leader in goal could find out the
true situation. Now it seems the radio message was completely misleading and it
is the wording of that that all the arguments will be about.

However the task was stopped due to an accident in goal after
about ten had finished. Christian Vioblet broke his shoulder landing. Steve
Blenkinsop was also slightly injured there.

Jamie Shelden writes:

The task wasn't stopped… goal was closed for a few minutes to
get the helicopter in and out for Christian, but there was no one anywhere near
landing there anyway, so it didn't effect anything.

British Hang Gliding Team writes:

In many ways the organization has been great here. But in many
ways it is the most sadly compromised event I have so far witnessed. Due to the
way this incident was handled the stop procedure was not correctly followed.
Therefore the only thing that can happen if the rules are correctly applied is
that the task is zero' d. However the successful publicity side is what is
driving everything here so following the rules will be too much of an
embarrassment in front of too many people. Unless a team wants so much to be
hated that they make a protest.
