Just a nice south flow with a cu filled sky and a high cloud base,
starting at 5,000'. I didn't go so far, racing ahead of Larry and Greg and not
stopping for light lift. Larry landed in a familiar spot a little north of
Citrus. Greg landed by Keystone airfield. 10 mph tail wind at 170 degrees. I took a better line after the second thermal that we all were in at Mascote.
Larry and Greg were wary of getting pinched to to the north at Leesburg, but the
wind (as they knew) was out of the south southeast. So I headed for the better
clouds and didn't drop out as I saw Greg do and found 500 fpm to 5,000'. Heading downwind which was a perfect course line to get up past the Villages on
the west side east of Wildwood, I again found 300 fpm that turned into 500 fpm.
Things were going very well as I had easily found four thermals in a row and
they all panned out. Headed for good cu's and stopped for a turn of lift that turned down on the
second turn. Should have gone back up wind to center the thermal as that was the
last lift I got. Greg dug his way out of the hole he was in and then Larry flew over my head
searching for a long time where I had gone down. They both continued up highway
301 for nice flights and good landings.
