We all need the support of local communities to allow our free
flying to continue. Whether through the use of public or private lands or
through airfield facilities. Building good will by supporting good deeds and
good causes shows that we are members of the community and not leaches on their
good graces.

One very small and isolated local community is Canoa, Ecuador. We, of course,
support communities in the US, but that support doesn't stop at the border. They
have an English language elementary school there that prepares the children for
a wider world. Hang glider and paraglider pilots, along with surfers support the
school.

Here’s how it works. After reading
this brochure and deciding to sponsor a child, you will go to
www.jamesdeanbyrdfoundation.org and click on the “DONATE” button on the
bottom of the page. Once you have set up your Pay Pal information (you can
donate using your credit card too), you just check the reoccurring box and set
up how often and at what increment you would like funds to transfer to our
account for your child. When we receive the funds, you will be assigned a child
and at this point can start your communication (if you choose) with this child.
Even if you choose not to communicate directly with your child, we will send you
periodic updates on how your child is doing. Super easy and rewarding for both
student and donor!
