The results:

https://airtribune.com/flytec-rally-2015/blog__day_training And it was not a training day. Jamie kept saying no to live tracking. Zac said
yes and made it happen. Belinda is providing support. http://www.onlinecontest.org/olc-2.0/para/flightinfo.html?flightId=1693205997 http://www.onlinecontest.org/olc-2.0/para/getScoring.html?scoringId=319 http://www.paraglidingforum.com/leonardo/flight/1162549 http://wxc.fai.org/module.php?id=22&date=20150304&gliderclass=hg1 http://www.xcontest.org/world/en/flights/detail:davisstraub/14.5.2015/17:29 http://www.xcontest.org/world/en/ranking-hg-open/ The forecast said it would be best if we launched at 11 AM, but the morning was
heavily overcast so we postponed the launch. This lead to a later launch time
which then lead to us waiting as a light rain moved in. We waited more and then
it really rained as we hid under our gliders. I took a nice nap there as the fire ants found Belinda. Around 2:30 PM the sky
cleared up near us and Mitch opened launch at 3 PM with the first start at 4:10
PM. There was a strong east wind at 12 mph. There was light lift right after launch and it is easy to climb up while
drifting to the west. Fifteen minutes before the start gate opened I was at
cloud base and just hanging around moving out to get down a hundred feet and
then back under the cloud. It was moving west and I figured out that I could
hang in it and stay in the start cylinder until the start time. Other pilots pushed upwind to the east to get under other clouds and be ready to
get the start upwind of the course line. Having dropped out of the sky a few
days earlier leaving cloudbase to do this I decided I was just staying with what
I had at cloudbase and live with the consequences of being a little downwind. A half dozen of us headed out at 4:10 and there were plenty of cu's ahead with a
little rain to the west. Blue hole to the northeast. The idea was to follow the
upwind edge of the clouds to stay near the course line and away from the treed
areas to the northwest by Lake Panasoffkee. Pilots to the east of us had to come
to the west to get under the clouds. The east wind was strong up to 18 mph and we were heading northwest. Northeast
of Center Hill I headed for the the eastern edge of a forested area and found
100 fpm. I was low enough at 1,900' to take it. At 2,500' I then moved downwind
in over the forested area to what looked like reasonable clouds. There were
places to land if needed. It was only 180 fpm but I climbed to 4,000' with John Simon coming back to get
under me but not get up quite as quickly. Five kilometers downwind of the course line I headed north east of Lake
Panasoffkee. There were small gaggles ahead and it was a game of connecting the
gaggles. 300 fpm at the intersection of I75 and the Turnpike got us to 3,600'. Turning north northwest along the course line brought me to the upwind edge of
another forested area at 1,600'. 140 fpm got me to 2,700' 10 kilometers from
goal. Marion Oaks ahead made for an interesting final glide with a golf course
half way. The sink was light as it was the last time we were here and there were
cu's ahead so it was an easy final glide.
