It is June, the flying season is here and the Chelan dust devils
are taunting us to come out and play. This year is the 34th Annual Chelan Cross
Country Classic, June 28 to July 3. But wait! There's more! Act now and for a
low, low price not only do you get the Classic but also you get the US Open
Distance National Championships, a USHPA sanctioned event for pilots to compete
for national ranking points. All pilots will automatically be entered in both
meets. The purpose is still the same, to both provide vigorous competition for
top pilots, and a great learning experience for novice cross country pilots.
Chelan is also a great vacation town on a beautiful lake.
This is both a hang gliding and a paragliding meet. The meet format is
pilot-called task. You decide where to fly and how to get the most out of each
day. Both wings will have sub classes based on glider performance or they will
be given performance factors to level the playing field.
Here are some addition fun elements planned for this year's meets 1) New,
closer-in waypoints for smaller out-and-returns and triangle flights. Great for
beginning cross country or late launches 2) Mountain waypoints, added primarily
for the paragliders. Good for high-pressure weather days 3) Battle Above The
Butte - the Rematch - informal grudge match between the hangs and the paras with
beer money and pride on the line. 4) Cross Country Skills Workshop - the weekend
before the meet, June 20, 21. 5) An cross country Information Exchange evening,
experience pilots can volunteer to prepare a 5-minute talk about tips and tricks
of cross country flying 5) USHPA film Festival 6) The always popular BBQ and
awards ceremony on the last day of the meet, 3rd of July.
Early meet registration ends June 15 ($110 until 6/15, $120 thereafter). Go to
the CBCC website: www.cloudbase.org.
Make your plan and come fly Chelan!
