in the morning, which is often the case), the task committee called a triangle
task to the northwest. The cu's start popping nearby at 1:20 as we started our
launch, much earlier than the previous days. I was early to launch and again circled up to 7,500'. Hanging in the start
cylinder was easy with the lighter winds and plentiful lift. There were
scattered cu's and the lift was smooth and great fun to fly in. No one got tired
waiting for the start window at 2:40. We got to almost 10,000' before turning and heading out to cross the cylinder
edge at 27 seconds after the start time. There were plenty of pilots around and
we all spread out heading for some cu's to the northwest. It was 23 kilometers before we found some reasonable lift, 275 fpm. There were
gliders all around and I headed west to go to some better clouds and found the
better lift that got us to 8,500'. With plenty of pilots around we searched and found weak lift and drifted toward
the turnpoint in 14 mph tail wind (southeast). We couldn't get over 8,000'. The
cu's were disappearing (they were few and far between). Lots of pilots are low
but a few of us were staying high. Just east of the turnpoint we found 220 fpm and with a dozen pilots in the
thermal those of us near the top or at the top climbed to 7,900'. The five
pilots just above me headed out to take the turnpoint as we were drifting past
it. I followed leaving Robin Hamilton a few hundred feet below me still turning. The six of us just glided into a 13 mph quartering head wind and glided and
glided for fifteen kilometers until we all landed. Landing by Zac Majors.
