Darren Rickertt, 40, of Mudgeeraba, was competing in the Canungra
Classic and was sitting in 19th place when he crashed west of the Gold Coast at
about 4pm yesterday.

Nearby cattle property workers witnessed the confronting incident and said he
strayed away from a pack of hang gliders before crashing at a cattle property
identified as Transmere.

Today was to be the final day of the Canungra Classic but organisers have
cancelled the event to pay their respects to Mr Rickertt.
