Lifetime membership in the USHPA?
http://www.ushpa.aero/freeflightforever.asp
What about life memberships? Didnt we raise a bunch of money that
way, a long time ago?
For a few years back around 1977-1980 we sold life memberships. They cost $250
in an era when dues were $20 per year. We sold less than fifty of them, and we
still have 28 on the books today. They didnt solve our financial crisis. The
board voted back at the time to end them and require a membership vote if they
were ever to be allowed again. We dont think life memberships would raise the
kind of money we need today.
I asked Martin and Mark whether they had asked. I proposed $1,500.
Perhaps you should write to Mark or Martin if you are willing.
Martin Palmaz <<martin>>; Mark G. Forbes <<mark>>;
Mark responds:
$1500 would be even more of a discount than the $250 was, back in
the day.
Now, for $150,000 it would be worthwhile, but at that kind of price we'd rather
ask those folks to make a loan to help fund the RRG, which they can get an
interest rate on in return.
In any case, it takes both a full meeting and vote of the board, and a vote of
the entire membership to allow life memberships to be issued once again. They're
currently prohibited, and have been since 1980.
I respond:
And how long is a lifetime now given the average age of the USHPA
members today compared with the late 70s?
Putting together 100 pilots who would do this? I can try. That is only twice as
many as in the 70s for lifetime members.
But that wouldnt be the case if I put together 100 members. If they only loan
the USHPA $1,500 then they dont have to meet the stricter investor criteria?
