It was a really tough decision, but the bottom line was that life goes on for
the various people that have made the comp possible over the years. People get
married and go on honeymoons, they get “real” jobs or have other obligations or
just plain get burned out.

As for me, I just desperately need a little break from it this year. I started
to realize that the majority of the key people that have been there working
their butts off every year aren’t able to make it this year. As I’m sure you can
imagine, finding reliable people (score keeper, meet director, launch director
and just good solid launch crew) that are willing to take a week off from their
regular work for little or no pay to look after a bunch of hang glider pilots is
really tough.

Anyway, I wanted to get the word right away so that people can rearrange their
schedules as soon as possible.

I’m super happy that the Quest comp is happening so that pilots have good comp
to kick off the flying season. Without the time commitment and stress of running
the Americus comp this year, I might even compete at Quest myself.
