The self insured era begins

After months of hard work, we now have insurance coverage from the
Recreation Risk Retention Group (RRRG); thank you for your role in making this
day happen. This milestone is big it is a major, tangible step towards
securing our interests for the future of free flight. With the RRG in place we
control our own destiny, protect our access to sites, and participate in
management of our costs all of which make our organization stronger and more
sustainable. We need all USHPA pilots to participate in and support the new
system in order to succeed: working together to improve safety, keep our sites
and landowners insured, and minimizing claims. We will all then benefit from
reduced costs (and potentially reduced dues) and a financially viable RRG.
Many sites have their shiny new RRRG Certificates of Insurance in hand. Many
more will be receiving them in the coming days. We are almost completely
transitioned to this new world of self-determination, although it is these
aggravating details that make insurance a necessary, if excruciating, issue. As
we travel this path it is clear that if we are successful with our RRG we will
benefit tremendously. We are entering into a new era that will be marked on
future calendars and celebrated for its effectiveness, and forward thinking.
Lets work through the final specifics together and move forward in security,
knowing that we are doing everything possible to deal with our insurance issues
successfully.
