A hang glider died after taking off from a launch area in
Crestline and crashing into a tree on Wednesday, authorities said.

The adult man glided for a short period of time after leaving the glider launch
near Playground and Crest Forest drives, according to the San Bernardino County
Fire Department.

Fire Capt. Dan Nelson said witnesses described the pilot making a 180-degree
turn after briefly gliding, then crashing into a lone tree on the side of a
hill. The witnesses went to the nearest fire station and reported the crash to
the crew on duty.
