No Flying in Rio
Corinna Schwiegershausen writes:
All flying is banned for about six weeks during the Olympics and
Paralympics in Rio. Many tandem pilots depend on their income of the flights,
and there is no compensation of course (this is Brazil). A scandal I think, just
another one, but it hits our sport, and our friends!
I had planned to be there and introduce some of the athletes to tandem flights
after their competitions, but there are no exceptions.
"Safety and security reasons". Ridiculous.
Whenever I was in Rio in August, the inversion was so strong that the
temperature on take off was 4 degrees C higher than on the beach, so definitely
no chance to get anywhere close to any of the Olympic venues.
But maybe they are afraid we the non-motorized pilots might be in the way of all
the helicopters that will take the executives and officials from one place to
the other to avoid the traffic chaos and the other hazards of the city, really
sad, if not sick.
