For the 2016th edition, the organizers of the Iquique HG Open in Chile have decided to make of this yearly historical national venue an international rendezvous; As co organizer (through Atout Vents) and Meet Director of the event, I am proud to announce for the pilots who don't know it already that the IQQ HG Open 2016 is registered as an FAI Cat. 2 event and has been on the CIVL/FAI calendar for a while now: http://www.fai.org/civl-events/civl-events-calendar-and-results?id=31555&EventCalendarId=11485#fragment-1

I am also quite excited because out of the already 20 confirmed pilots, we have Christian Ciech, the current HG Class 1 World and European Champion who has already got his plane ticket and his glider packed in wooden crate at the Icaro factory, and Tom Weissenberger, current Out and Return world record holder in Chile who has qualified and confirmed his registration (although he wrote me a few days ago that after what happened to him in Brazil, he will decide for sure in the next few days) and FYI, we are also working on a few 'surprise' pilots.

The cost of living in Chile is pretty standard (even if it's lower relatively to north America) but since it was the first time the comp was held as an FAI Cat. 2 event and thanks to the fact that some pilots of the Chilean organizing team
are sponsoring some of the new/big expenses for this year, it was decided that
the price will stay the same as every other year even though so many services
have been added but don't expect that for next year.

So the registration fee for this international comp with top ranked pilots
including the world champion is only 50 dollars for 1 week of competition!

Did I mention that Cross Country Magazine and Icaro are partners for the event and will provide prizes and free merchandising stuff for the competition and that I am waiting on confirmation from Flytec also.

Finally, the last but not the least, I am currently working on the details for a live tracking and live scoring solution for the event. It's just a matter of
logistics now so normally you will be able to follow the comp on Airtribune.

Here's the FB event page:

Compared to other touristic places in Chile which are more outdoorsy, hiking, visit and family oriented, Iquique is known worldwide as an extreme sports
paradise with a big Free Flying and Surfing, Diving community etc. You will find
plenty of links to some flying videos in Iquique if you go visit the FB event
page.

There are a total of 50 slots available and I have a feeling that with Mr. Ciech coming to compete, the partners we have secured and all the services provided for that insanely low registration fee, they will fill up pretty quick in the
next couple weeks so here is the link to Airtribune for registration for all
south and north American comp pilots who would like to participate for this
premiere in Chile: https://airtribune.com/hgiquiqueopen2016/registration
