I've started lubricating my keels with Star brite® Snap and Zipper
Lubricant:
http://www.starbrite.com/item/snap-zipper-lubricant-with-ptef. So far, the
results have been very encouraging. I've also been using it on zippers with
excellent results. I recently acquired a 100-hour old T2C 144 with the black anodized keel. I seem
to recall this keel being impregnated with Teflon or such. I squeezed some of
this Zipper Lube all around the Delrin ring that slides along the keel and moved
the ring back and forth. Black oxide came out onto the lube which starts out
like a grease. I kept wiping the keel and re-lubing until no more oxide came out when I slid
the ring back and forth. I wiped the lube until all that was left was a thin
film. I coated every part of the keel where there is sliding action. I also
re-lubed the hinge pins with extreme pressure synthetic grease. Anyhow, the net result on Monday was a VG that is slicker than snot.
