Interested in competing in Big Spring in 2017?

Belinda and I want to know if you want us to put on a USHPA and CIVL sanctioned
competition in Big Spring in 2017 and whether you will commit to entering and
coming to the competition..

If you want to fly in Big Spring in 2017 and are willing to commit to coming to
the competition then email <davis> with "2017 Big Spring" in the Subject line, and "Yes"
in the message, along with your name.

Now the details.

In 2016 we had 19 pilots come and fly in Big Spring. We need 40 pilots to come
fly in the competition in order to pay for Lori and Russell to bring their
Dragonflies out from Quest Air. We were only able to get two trikes to pull
everyone up. Gregg Ludwig wants to come back to Big Spring and tow pilots up
again behind his trike.

Mick Howard brought the other trike, but he wants to fly his hang glider in Big
Spring, and not have to tow pilots up. I searched all over Texas for other tugs
and other tug pilots without success.

This year the World Championships are happening in Brazil at about the time we
would be normally be putting on the Big Spring National series (August 6th
through the 19th). Some pilots who might otherwise come to Big Spring will
likely be going to Brazil (although none did in 2016).

We could put the competition on for a week starting July 16th, July 23rd, July
30th, or August 6th. Earlier dates to reduce any conflict with the Worlds, but
maybe that doesn’t make any difference.

There are only two other USHPA/NTSS and CIVL/WPRS sanctioned meets in the US in
2017. The Midwest 2017, June 4th - 10th, and Dinosaur 2017, June 18th – 24th.
Combined with the Quest Air Open and Reopen maybe that is enough competition for
the year. There won’t be a meet in Casa Grande in 2017.

Towing costs are high – $450. Entry fee would be $350. So it is an expensive
competition.

Big Spring would love to have us come back, but they are hoping for twice as
many pilots as 2016.
