2017 Forbes Flatlands - overall
http://www.hgoutlanders.com/
Based on considerable grumbling amongst the drivers and even many
of the pilots, it seems most of the field was pretty exhausted by the last day
of very typical long Forbes tasks. Many expected a shortish task on the final
day
many were disappointed. The task committee called a 227 km task out to the
west past Tuesdays Lake Cargelligo goal. It was a race for pilots and drivers
alike, but with so many at goal, I didnt hear any complaining when it was all
said and done though. It was a great way to end another fantastic week of
flatland flying. Gerolf and Andre raced into goal neck in neck fighting for the
final day win. Gerolf took it in the end with Andre so close behind him. Andre
explained later that he would never have risked his life trying to beat Gerolf
had he known he would get one of Mollys day win cookies for finishing in the
top 10 overall.
There has been a big group of new Chinese competition pilots this year. Theyve
flown the sport class and done incredibly well. One Chinese pilot, whos name I
would butcher if I attempted to say or spell it, had a particular good comp. He
arrived day one with not a single cross country flight under his belt. On the
final day, he made goal and continued on another 50km for an awesome personal
best. Tragically, his instrument didnt record a track log for him, so he got no
points of the day and missed out on winning the sport class, but he still left
with a giant smile on face and Im sure a week of fantastic flying and memories.
