Live Tracking for scoring purposes
We will be using Live Tracking for scoring purposes at the 2017
Green Swamp Sport Klassic and the 2017 Quest Air Open and Reopen (see and please
carefully read below). Live tracking will also be used at the 2017 World Championships as the primary
track log. From the 2017 CIVL Plenty minutes: http://www.fai.org/downloads/civl/CIVL_2017_Minutes Flights will be verified using either GPS track log or livetracking data. When
live-tracking data is used as a primary source of scoring, pilots must be able
to produce GPS track logs as a back-up. From the local rules for the 2017 Worlds: The tracklogs of the Live Tracking devices will be used as the primary source
of scoring. Every pilot will be responsible for using and properly carrying in flight the
Live Tracking devices... Pilots coming to the meets at Quest Air in March and April need to be ready: We are attempting to modernize scoring by making it possible for pilots to no
longer have to download their tracklogs to the score keeper or to send them by
email to the score keeper. We want the tracklogs to be available in real time at
the end of the task to the scorer directly from your Live Track. Because we are
running a very very low cost meet we are looking for ways to keep all our costs
down and reducing the burden on the score keeper is part of that. Hang glider pilots, unlike paraglider pilots, have not been as attentive to the
use of Live Tracking and in some cases actively resist using it. Therefore we
have decided to institute a bonus for having a valid and correct track log from
Live Tracking. If you have to upload your track log from your flight instrument
because for any reason your Live Tracking track log is invalid, then you will
not get the bonus. The bonus schedule is very simple. 1% each day with a valid Live Tracking track. If you want to have valid Live Tracking tracklogs you need to prepare. You need
an Android phone with Android operating system 4.4 or above or you may get away
with an iPhone (go to their respective App stores to download the Airtribune
App). Otherwise youll need a dedicated Live Tracking device like the FlyMaster:
https://airtribune.com/news/flymaster-live-competition-live-tracking,
https://www.flymasterusa.com/instruments/tracker/. Other acceptable dedicated trackers are Teltonika GH3000, Redview GT60, Meitrack
GT30i, Meitrack MT90. Please note that SPOT and Inreach and any other satellite tracking devices are
not sufficient (because they do not track enough track log points) for scoring
purposes. If you are using a phone then you might want to have a battery charger, for
example:
https://smile.amazon.com/Anker-bar-Sized-Portable-High-Speed-Technology/dp/B00P7N0320/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1485540957&sr=8-3&keywords=phone+battery+charger You dont necessarily need one, but it is nice to know that you have plenty of
power when you land and want to get retrieved. The data usage for a tracklog is about 45 kb, essentially zero cost. If you are
coming from overseas and you can purchase a data plan before coming here, that
should be fine. If you have an unlocked phone you can get Sim card in advance
that works with AT&T. It is the pilots responsibility to get their Live Tracking working. Inform
yourself in advance about how to do this. We will provide a class the first day.
You must download the App and Check In with it when you arrive at Quest Air.
When the task is set you can begin recording. And, yes, we know that this will put an extra burden on the score keeper at
first. If you have comments or questions reply to
davis@davisstraub.com. Again, it is your responsibility to get this working for you in advance if at
all possible. Thats why we are writing to you now to get you to prepare
yourself. If you cant get your phone to work, get another phone. For example:
