The Asterisked Women's Worlds
As I pointed out in the last issue, the top women pilots won't
fly in the women's worlds
If a women makes her national team or gets to fly in the World
Championship when more teams from each nation are allowed in (but usually don't
count for the championship), she is not going to be interested in flying in the
Women's Worlds. She'll be eligible for a lot more WPRS (world ranking) points if
she flies in the World Championships rather than the Women's Worlds. You say points aren't important? Well, that is about all that CIVL has on offer. So that means, as I pointed out, the prestige (if there is that much to begin
with) of the Women's Worlds is going to go in the toilet with only the lower
tier women competing. It's obvious that whoever becomes the women's world champion will have an
asterisk on her achievement. You've got to wonder if CIVL really thinks that
this is encouraging women.
