The start window opened at 13:30 above Croce D'Aune pass, under
blue sky that nevertheless were not generous to the 150 pilots competing for the
title of World Champion. This was followed by a fast run in the direction of
Fastro to the first turn point and then back to reach Sedico.

After that the gaggle split. One group of about 30 pilots preferred to cling to
the slopes of the ridge even for the way back but the majority flew across the
valley to the south. But this was a bad decision due to the absence of the
thermals and it was impossible to gain altitude. Some soared above Arsie in the
search of more favorable conditions.

In the meantime the group that took the mountainous path got the lift and flew
onward acquiring a great advantage over the others. But after 2 hours of task
the director stopped the task due to thunderstorms on the way. Pilots got the
message at 15:20.
