Why does the Oz Report web site not respond sometimes (too
often)?

Basically the internet is full of exploits and various automated
processes that are out there knocking on our door trying to get in for no good
reason at all. They clog up the entry ways. We can only handle so many snoopers
(as opposed to real people) at once and the whole thing makes everyone else
wait. We (Scare) check the logs to see who is causing the problem and make sure
that they don't get any more of our handles. There doesn't seem to be an
automated way to keep this from happening unless you have million dollar
resources.

A note from our web host:

I apologize, itables requires root access, so the ACC is the only
way to add/modify/delete these rules. On the other hand, I don't see why you
can't have a PHP script write deny rules in a .htaccess file, and have Apache
block access.

This is what we do already, so that was no help.
