PGAWC Event In Cyprus Desanctionned And Not To Be Ranked The Paragliding Accuracy World Cup organized a Cat 2 event in Mersin, Turkey, on
February 16 to 18, 2018 (as the application and FAI Calendar testify).
Eventually, the event was relocated in Kyrenia, Cyprus, without the consent of
the Cyprus NAC or FAI being informed. FAI received a very strong protest from the Cyprus NAC that requested to
de-sanction the event. FAI agreed to it, as Cyprus per international law is one
area. The Northern part of Cyprus is only recognized by Turkey, and events
cannot take place there without support by the Cyprus NAC. CIVL wonders why the event was relocated in this manner and why the local NAC
was not consulted. CIVL, in agreement with FAI, will not process the event
result in its WPRS. Official announcement on website: https://www.fai.org/news/pgawc-event-cyprus-desanctioned-and-not-be-ranked?type=node&id=24473
