On Monday we had a strong day with an 8,000' cloud base and light
winds. Perfect for getting around the swamp.

Tuesday and Wednesday the forecasts were for northeast winds and we saw the sky
full of cu's. I greatly regret not heading south for Venice on those days.
Without a flying partner I wasn't ready to go. I tried to make up for it on
Thursday when there was yet another great forecast for a southwest task to the
coast at Venice.

Northeast winds, 10-13 mph at the top of lift, strong lift, high cloud base, and
high top of lift.

It didn't turn out that way at all. The reason was that high clouds dominated.
They shut down the possibility of lift, and no cu's showed up nearby.

The high clouds were here all day.

We took off at 1 PM anyway and did not find any lift. This is the first time
this has happened here this season at Quest.

The soaring models just don't take high clouds into account.
