Free Flight Foundation provides training gliders

For the first time in 30 years students will be hang gliding 15
minutes from Virginia Tech campus. Now is the time for incoming students to join
the Hang Gliding Club at Virginia Tech! The Hang Gliding Club has previously
taken 1 or 2 trips per year to hang gliding schools such as Kitty Hawk Kites
(Nags Head, NC) and Lookout Mountain (Rising Fawn,GA) to introduce students to
the wonderful feeling of flight, where our members would work with instructors
to float 5-15 ft off the ground for small hill flights. Now thanks to the
support from our community, we will bring the excitement to Blacksburg! The
Foundation for Free Flight has granted our club up to $6550 to purchase 2 new
training hang gliders which will allow beginners to learn to fly a few feet off
the ground at slow speeds with proper instruction, and for rated pilots to fly
from hills of 50 to 200 ft! USHPA certified instructors will be able to provide
voluntary introductory lessons to students to see first hand the opportunity
available. Rated pilots will receive a specific site orientation with flying
rules and guidelines to allow qualified pilots to fly together with the new
gliders at the USHPA registered site. The asset of having the latest technology
in training hang gliders makes learning to fly much safer and easier than was
ever possible before, especially having one of each size to fit our weight range
of pilots.
The Foundation for Free Flight is a charity aiming to preserve flying sites and
fund the development of educational programs. We are incredibly thankful to the
Foundation for their generous contribution and to all of our supporters for
making it possible to build a small flying community at Virginia Tech. Before we
can purchase our new gliders, our club must raise a $1000 match. If you can help
out by donating cash or equipment, please click here for the GoFundMe link or
contact Hunter Hollingshead (<hunterh>

and contact Hunter if you would like to participate in Nags Head, NC this
summer.
