Get your Flytec 6030 / Bräuniger Compeo+ ready for 2018 and beyond.
There is a new firmware available for the 6030/Compeo+:
V5.00b's main addition is the capability to switch between FAI sphere and WGS84
ellipsoid for distance calculation. To get that, follow these steps:
1. Download the newest firmware from here:
https://www.naviter.com/download-manual-support/#Flytec ("Flytec 6030
firmware 5.00b")
2. Install the firmware on your vario (requires a Windows computer). Older 6030/Compeo+
work with everything up to Windows 7. If your vario was produced after August
2014, or has had its communication chip upgraded, it will also work with Windows
8 or 10.
3. Purchase the release code for WGS84 distance calculation (see link above).
The proceeds go fully towards continued support and maintenance for the 6030/Compeo+.
4. Once you get the release code by email (be patient please, this step has not
been automated yet, so it's manual labor on our end), enter it under Menu -
Device settings - Software options - Package 06 WGS84 distance calculation
5. Switch between FAI sphere and WGS84 under Menu - Device settings - Earth
model.
So what's going on here? Currently the 6030 uses the FAI sphere as
its earth model for doing distance calculations and to determine if you have
entered the cylinder around a turnpoint. The new version of the scoring system
(2018 version) wants you to use the WGS-84 ellipsoid earth model. See here:

This will be mandated for category 1 hang gliding competition starting next
year.
It will not be required by US hang gliding competitions (at least the ones we
run).
