15th FAI European Paragliding Championship - 2018 Thursday 19th
July: Competition Day 2
After inclement weather led to the cancelling of the first days task, fortunes
changed on the second competition day for the organizers, when the Meet Director
and his team decided to convene competitors at the events northernmost take-off
site, despite forecasts of low cloud and overdevelopment.
The Task Committee set a 55km race task from the site overlooking Spain. The
pilots queued up to launch in the variable conditions, which proved to be
enjoyable but challenging with 82 pilots of the 150 competitors reaching goal.
Felix Rodriguez Fernández (ESP) led the chasing pack, reaching goal in 1 hour 26
minutes; over four minutes in front of Luc Armant (FRA) and Margelisch Yael
(SUI). Margelisch led the women pilots with Daria Krasnova (RUS) in second place
and Nanda Walliser (SUI) in third.
After this first relatively short task, the leading team is Spain with France
and Poland following respectively. For those who are interested, the competition
