Waterspouts
James Gibson <<gibson.gds>>
writes:
On July 26 three hang glider pilots launched from the Green Point
(Frankfort, Michigan) ramp into buoyant and smooth 15 mph westerly winds. The
sky in front of launch was partly blue but five miles to the north there were
signs of strong instability over the water.
Thirty minutes later, while we were still in the mellow ridge lift, a waterspout
formed a couple of miles offshore and was photographed by paraglider pilot Wayne
Bergman who was standing on the launch ramp. The waterspout 'lived' for twenty
five minutes before it died as it slowly approached the shoreline.
