2019 Cross Country 101 Clinic
With the continuing north northeast wind we again sent the
students south along highway 33. For the first time in four days we had
sunshine. The upper level clouds thinned out and it looked like we would have
thermals. We again had four landing fields for them as well as a look at other
possible fields to land in. The sun kept coming out and then being obscured by clouds. They got thicker and
then thinner. At 2 PM it looked like they were getting thicker, but it turned
out that they thinned out and by 3 PM it was much better. None the less that was
after the fact that we towed them up at 2 PM. A couple of students were able to find lift, even a thermal peaking at 400 fpm.
April landed in the second goal field which was way big enough. Kate landed in a
tight little field (600') and survived unscathed. Tim landed east of the Seminole glider port in a huge field. Attlia and Mick
landed in another huge field 16 km from Wilotree Park south east of the glider
port. Lift looks good for the next three days. We'll see if the wind speed and
direction is conducive to flying. Kate, out standing in her field:
