This year the NZ HG Champs will be held at the top of the South Island in picturesque Havelock, over the period 14-22 Feb 2009 (22nd is a reserve day). The champs will be an FAI Cat 2 event so international pilots are more than welcome to attend.

For the gun pilots out there, this comp could be an excellent way top up that mountain flying experience before heading to the 2009 Worlds in June. The comp itself is foot launch (from any one of the twelve sites in the area) and tasks will vary from 40-100 kms.

The 2006 Nationals were conducted in Havelock and resulted in a record number of comp days and distances flown – with a bit of luck the 2009 Champs will be the same. If this sounds like you, just get yourself and your glider into the country and the organising team will help you regarding transport to and from the airport, transport during the comp, and cheap accommodation.
