Meet directors at the beck and call of the USHPA Competition Committee

A meet director must hold a USHPA Meet Director Appointment (for Class B and C events).

Apprentice under a USHPA appointed meet director at B and C level meets. (NOTE: This requirements may be waived....)

Looks like even though I have been the meet director for the paragliding nationals and the 2007 Worlds, I wouldn't qualify for this position, nor would any of our existing meet directors. You have to petition to be grandfathered into the system. Why in the hell would I think that the USHPA Competition Committee has any expertise in determining whether I am qualified to be a meet director?

The Workgroup completely mixes up meet directors and meet organizers on page 13, their Meet Director Apprentice Program section. There seems to be a special provision in there to allow for Lisa to be grandfathered in. Wow, talk about special pleading.

The Competition Committee Chairman can disqualify grandfathering in anyone at their discretion (that means they don't have to explain their reasons). This can only be veto by the full BOD. The process for doing this is not clearly outlined nor the timing.

This whole section smells of corruption and special favors, as well as an invitation to more corruption in the future.

Isn't the meet director the person chosen by the meet organizer to be the best meet director? If the USHPA Competition Committee and the USHPA BOD decides to sanction a meet, haven't they already chosen the meet organizer, and doesn't that mean that they trust the meet organizer to find an appropriate meet director?

Exactly what has occurred that has made this a problem? I don't believe that this has been a problem with hang glider meets. What's going on over there in a paragliding section of the USHPA?

I'd like to know just exactly what happened that made this a concern for the paragliding pilots on the Workgroup.
