I have serious doubts about the viability and desirability of holding the Worlds at the site indicated above, but as I don't know about the flying conditions there I will have to ask others about them. I'll ask Ollie and Lukas when I see them in January in Australia.

I get very nervous when a meet organizer talks about the tourism possibilities of his site. This is a dead give away that the weather is bad so there will be something to do on all the days that the weather sucks (unlike in Big Spring). This also indicates that the organizer has not got his priorities straight at all. He is not focusing on what pilots want (lots of good flying days). He is looking at the sponsors and the press. A very bad focus, one that will surely disappoint the pilots who will rightfully see themselves as being used to further some other purpose than that of the best competition.

I also don't know if we want to deliver ourselves into the hands of the DHV and their constant war to get all our sprogs checked. This is crazy land. Do we really want to encourage them?

I do not trust the DHV at all.

It appears that the site is not all that experienced in towing. Tow competitions are very difficult to pull off and it requires an experienced crew of many tug pilots. Only the US has enough experienced tug pilots (Australia needs to import a few when they hold a big competition). I would like to hear more about this.

It seems like the meet organizer wants to show off his site and benefit from the attention that it will get from a World Championship. Is this the best deal for the pilots? I remain quite doubtful.

The proposal will go before the CIVL Plenary in February. I can only hope that there are other proposals to compete with this one so that the delegates can have a chance to properly weigh the benefits of one site Vs. another. I would love to hear from German pilots about the issues that I have raised here (and that Corinna raised in the earlier article). I would love to hear from German pilots who have flown in Australia about how they would compare this proposal with one to have a another Worlds in Australia or Italy.
