The Berlin Hang Gliding Club wants to put on the Worlds

In December 2008, the Berlin Hang Gliding Club will place an official bid for hosting the Hang Gliding World Championships in the year 2011. Today Klaus Tänzler, CEO of the German Hang Gliding Federation has sent a letter of support to the CIVL president Flip Koetsier.
The Berliners want to conduct this international event in the heart of Europe just 65 Km away from the German capital Berlin near the end of June 2011. The idea is to chose tasks which will bring pilots and the sport close to prominent places of public interest like attractions (e.g. Cargolifter hall, or Wörlitzer Castles Park or Potsdam Exhibition of Gardens) or industrial settlements (e.g. Volkswagen Auto-City). This concept is to raise the interest of sponsors and the press for the sport.
The club (www.dcb.org) is the owner of a former Russian airbase with rich infrastructure, concrete runways and formidable XC-potential. In the years to come the Berliners will host two more open hang gliding championships and carefully observe other Class 1 events for which CIVL rules apply in order to optimally prepare for this project.
