Andreas Ernst Becker at Flugschule Drachenfliegenlernen <<email>> has sent me weather data for one of the proposed sites for the Worlds. The actual site is to be determined by the CIVL Plenary in February. He writes:
During the search of another location for my hang gliding school I did a precise meteorological analysis and comparison of two locations: Altes Lager first and Itzehoe (close to Hamburg) second. Therefore I brought all meteorological data available to do a conclusion based on scientific data.
I have the whole soaring data in Altes Lager from 1st of April to 30th of September 2005. Weather situation, wind speeds in altitudes, even climb rates, and a potential flying distance (PFD) of a topless hang glider.
You can find the July and August 2005 weather here. This is an Excel worksheet.
It appears that one can expect to get about 50% flyable (but quite weak) competition days during July and August.
There was not one hour during those two months that had a hang glider climb rate greater than 2 m/s (400 fpm).
