Forbes, official practice day

The Forbes Flatlands practice day was a big hit with the competitors as we got our practice tows in and got used to our gliders. With seven tugs pilots there was no waiting and with good lift no one had to come around for a re-tow except the pilots that got bumped off early. There was a bit of rotor coming off the hangars and a few tugs went sideways at a few hundred feet causing the trailing pilots to go the other way then pin off.

Swiss Nick is here (with Claudia) flying an Airborne C4-13.5. He's the Wills Wing dealer in Switzerland.

I found the Moyes Litesport 4 to fly just fine. It feels a little "big" (slow to respond) but that's how I usually feel when I get on a glider for the first time in a while. I'll have a better idea about it in a few days.

Gerolf reminded me that he won a day flying the Litesport when we were flying at Deniliquin. He's thinking that the Litesport is a very competitive glider and that I should do well on it.

Gerolf, Attila and I came up with a new set of turnpoints for this meet using previous sets,  Google Earth and SeeYou. All the turnpoints are now landable fields (not silos). Many are airfields. Attila has a remarkable memory for tasks and goals and turnpoints from previous years (I just remember that we flew in Forbes) and he provided great help on choosing new turnpoints and goals. He knew where all the lift was and what ridges we could use.

The Forbes Flatlands begins tomorrow.
