Bogong Cup, day two, no task
See those clouds in the bottom right corner at 1:30 PM?
They came over us around noon. No one spoke up when asked if they wanted to hang out at launch on Mt. Emu to wait for the clouds to pass if ever. There was plenty virga coming toward us but I never felt any rain.
After the task was called off Scott got off first and flying straight out got 200' over launch in light ridge lift. At least half a dozen other pilots flew in the mellow conditions. Launch conditions were excellent. The winds were from the southwest yp there and very variable in the valley from northwest to southwest to nil.
The Victoria RASP/WRF was calling for 250-350 fpm lift to 6,000'. XCSkies had it right at 0-100 fpm at 2 PM. RASP has always misjudged when there are mid or high level clouds. XCSkies appears to know about these things.
The RASP/WRF appeared to be aware of the trough and the changes in wind direction associated with the trough, but not aware as it should be of the reduced lift associated with the trough due to the mid to high level clouds. It did show less lift in our area but not the really low lift right here that XcSkies amply displayed.
