Groveland - water fight
I wrote about the drought in Florida: http://ozreport.com/13.058#2. There have been numerous droughts here since I first started coming here in the late 1990's. In spite of that drought folks want to suck the water out of the Green Swamp (we stay in the Green Swamp here at Quest).

The water-transmission pipeline in still in the conceptual stages. The pipeline would carry water produced at the Yankee Lake and Taylor Creek plants on the St. Johns River in Seminole County, and water drawn from the Lower Ocklawaha River, in addition to any plant built on the river at DeLand. The overall cost? More than $1 billion, perhaps several billion. Hence the necessity to pool resources. The system would be able to transport water from any connected source to any connected demand center. That way, if a hurricane knocked out one water plant, water could be routed in a different direction, from another plant.

Its about water. Our water supply is running out. Why should Niagara Bottling be allowed to pump 500,000 gallons a day when were asked to conserve? Niagara wants almost 200 million gallons per year -- thats equal to 1 out of every 4 cups of water our entire community is allowed.

GROVELAND, Fla. -- In a surprise move, the City of Groveland will continue its legal battle with the Niagara water bottling company.
City council members voted unanimously, Monday night, to fight Niagara and the St. John's River Water Management District in court. Niagara has applied for a permit to withdraw 484,000 gallons of water per day from the aquifer. They want to bottle the water at their Groveland plant.

Some neighbors, already under tight water restrictions, worry there's not enough groundwater to share.
The city has spent $264,000 so far in a costly legal battle, and has now decided to use water and sewer funds to fight the company's permit application. But they're on their own -- Lake County bowed out earlier this month, wondering if this is a winnable fight.
